At Inverness Farms, we offer hunter/jumper and hunt seat equitation horseback riding lessons. Our students range in age from children through adults and in riding skill from beginner through advanced. Our objective is to provide highly customized lessons for each of our students, based on their individual riding experience and objectives. Our goal is to do this in a safe, positive, confidence-building, enjoyable environment. We emphasize not just riding, but overall horsemanship skills. Instructor/HorsesThe owner and manager of Inverness Farms, Linda Johnson, conducts all of our riding instruction. Linda has extensive experience in riding, competing, and teaching hunter/jumper and hunt seat equitation. We do not use young, inexperienced riding instructors. This eliminates instructor turnover and the associated training setbacks. Our lesson horses provide excellent options for the beginner through the most advanced rider. Boarders can take lessons on their own horse or on one of our school horses. Trailer-in lessons are welcome as well. Customized Lesson ProgramAll students start with an introductory private lesson to assess that student’s riding skill and knowledge of horsemanship. That session also gives us an opportunity to discuss the rider’s prior experience and their lesson objectives. Based on this interaction, we work together to develop a customized lesson program for each student. Beginner RidersBeginner students will learn the fundamentals of horsemanship, including leading, grooming, and tacking up the horse, as well as basic horse management and tack care. Beginner riding lessons will concentrate on gradually and safely building up the student’s riding skill from walk to trot to cantering and jumping. However, our students are not required to jump. We believe that riding should be fun, and that students should not be forced into doing something that they are not ready for from a safety or confidence perspective. We provide the instruction and encouragement for students to progress at their own individual level. Beginner students remain in private lessons until they can safely handle a horse on their own and can safely ride in a group situation. Once the beginner rider can safely ride in a group setting, they have the option to do so or to remain in private lessons. Experienced RidersFor our more experienced students, we offer the opportunity to ride in private, semi-private, or group lessons. Our group lessons are typically kept to 3-4 students, as we do not believe that students can learn as effectively in a large group setting. Our objective with our more experienced riders is to offer challenging and creative riding exercises to help improve the student’s ability and confidence. TrainingWe also offer training rides for our boarder horses or trailer-in horses. We work closely with you to construct an under saddle and/or over fence program that is appropriate for your horse based on his previous training and your riding objectives. Lesson & Training Rates
Clients may pay for lessons at the time of the lesson or in advance. There is no required pre-payment for the month; however, students are expected to make a commitment to ride at least once a week. Students may elect to take multiple lessons per week, schedule permitting. Clients may schedule lessons at a certain time each week or accommodations may be made for students who need flexibility in scheduling. Lesson rates for boarders and trailer-in lessons are the same as above. Boarders will be invoiced for lessons and training rides over and above their pre-paid monthly lesson/training fee at the end of each month.
